Trips is Highly Commended at the National Transport Awards

We’re proud to announce that Cyclehoop Trips has been Highly Commended at the National Transport Awards, recognising our innovative approach to active travel and public space.

Last night, the great and good of the transport industry gathered to celebrate the best projects, services and providers in the sector from the past year. Cyclehoop Trips, our on-demand cycle parking service, was shortlisted in the ‘Exemplary Approach to Active Travel and Public Space’ category. With ten strong entries in the category, competition was fierce, and we were thrilled to receive Highly Commended for our Trips service.

“We’re delighted that Trips has been recognised at the National Transport Awards,” said Anthony Lau, Founder and Design Director of Cyclehoop. “This commendation highlights the growing need for secure, flexible and accessible cycle parking. By rethinking how our streets are used, we can make cycling a truly viable choice for everyone—helping councils meet their climate goals while giving people confidence that their bikes are safe.”

What is Trips?

Trips is helping councils reclaim streets for people, making cycling safer and more accessible for all.

Launched in Glasgow in 2023, Trips is the UK’s first on-demand cycle parking network that transforms underused car parking bays into secure cycle parking. By installing our Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond accredited Bikehangars, with app-controlled access, a single bay can provide weatherproof, short or long- term secure cycle parking for up to 12 bikes.

Reclaiming streets for cycling

Trips is transforming cities by demonstrating how local authorities can repurpose car-dominant public space into active infrastructure, without major capital works or long procurement cycles. This project redefines end-of-trip infrastructure: flexible, visible, digitally enabled, and inspired by real cycling behaviour. It supports carbon reduction goals, strengthens transport links and makes cycling accessible for everyone.

Keeping bikes safe

Security was central to the project’s success as locating a safe, secure place to park your bike is one of the key barriers to cycling. Each unit is Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond accredited, offering the highest protection against forced entry by both manual and powered tools. With over 4,000 bikes stolen in Glasgow between 2020 and 2023, this level of reassurance is critical for building public confidence.

Smart, data-driven infrastructure

The digital platform provides real-time availability, live booking management and detailed data reporting helping assess demand, monitor use and relocate units to maximise utility. Because no groundworks are required, Bikehangars can be easily moved based on demand – creating a responsive, flexible system that supports city-wide cycling uptake.

Councils can access a dashboard enabling better decision-making and data-driven strategies by providing real-time insights and a clear, concise overview of key performance indicators. With trackable data, the council can see cycling behaviour change and understand how people access different parts of the city.

Seeing the impact

Trips provides a reliable, flexible alternative to traditional city-centre cycle parking. As of October 2025, the platform has onboarded 2,300 users and recorded 5,875 bookings. Extrapolated across total bookings, this adds up to thousands of cumulative bike days securely parked; reducing pressure on informal and insecure parking locations and helping cut risk of theft.

How the data impacted decisions

In Glasgow, usage data revealed that 38% of bookings are between 7 and 10 hours long, with an average duration of 7 hours 12 minutes. This insight prompted us to develop a commuter-friendly subscription model that guarantees availability and lowers costs for frequent users.

Our analysis also highlighted the importance of location; 65% of bookings were concentrated in 21% of locations. In January 2025, 11 units were relocated to higher-demand areas including railway stations and major commercial zones.

Expanding across the UK

With units in Glasgow, Gloucestershire, Tower Hamlets, Maidstone, Peterborough and the Scottish Borders, the service continues to grow. Trips helps overcome barriers to cycling and gives people the confidence to ride, safe in the knowledge that they can park securely at their destination.

With ambitious plans for further expansion in 2025 and 2026, the cycle parking revolution is gaining momentum. We’re excited to keep growing Trips nationwide, helping more people choose cycling with the confidence that secure, convenient parking is always within reach.
