We worked with Slough Borough Council to improve the cycle parking provision in Wexham Park Hospital. The aim of the project was to help encourage more staff and visitors to cycle to the hospital. Slough Borough Council kindly funded this project.
The brief was for Cyclehoop was to come up with innovative cycle storage solutions for a higher demand of cycle parking whilst dealing with a limited amount of space. The challenge was to ensure the location was prominent and near the main entrance, ensuring adequate access.
The existing cycle parking was poor quality and inefficiently spread across the hospital leaving bicycles vulnerable to theft. The large increase in staff and visitors cycling to work led to a demand for more cycle parking, as well as facilities for minor repairs.
Cyclehoop worked with Slough Borough Council in conducting a survey of the site assessing all possible cycle parking and facilities options. The final decision was to build a Cycle Hub that combines cycle parking and facilities for minor repairs.
A blue Polycarbonate Cycle Shelter was installed with Sheffield stands providing cycle parking for ten bicycles. The zero-maintenance shelter is made from galvanised mild steel and is fitted with an anti-vandal polycarbonate UV stable roof and side panels protecting bikes from premature rusting. Cyclehoop also installed a Public Bike Repair Stand and a Compact Bike Pump offering staff and visitors a free facility for pumping up their tyres and making minor repairs to their bikes.
“The shelter, pump and maintenance have been helpful in initiatives to encourage cycling to work and also provide visitors an undercover shelter to leave their bike. The shelter has been well used since it was installed. The users appreciate having a proper shelter to leave their bicycle and if they need to pump up their tyres or adjust their saddle for example, they can now do this. As a result of Cyclehoop delivering our project, we have been able to provide more cycle parking spaces to encourage staff to cycle to work and provide visitors a covered shelter to leave their bike.” – Satinder Dosanjh, Commissioning Manager of Wexham Park Hospital
