Following on from our first successful Parklet installed in the UK, Team London Bridge recently organised a design competition for their own Parklet in the London Bridge area in the ‘Fresh Air Square’ competition. They hope to install their ‘Fresh Air Squares’ in September 2015 followed by a further 3-4 locations in spring 2016.
Fresh Air Squares will be modular, portable parklets that replace London car parking spaces for a period of one week to a year, improving the local environment as well as raising awareness about air quality issues.
Fresh Air Squares will be co-funded by the Transport for London Future Streets Incubator Fund which supports innovative on-street trials that aim to encourage sustainable transport and create vibrant public spaces. It delivers on the recommendations of the Roads Task Force, which calls for a stronger focus on innovation and trialing new approaches.
We submitted our design for a simple, minimalist parklet that included cycle parking, solar lighting and sustainable urban drainage solutions. Check out or design competition entry here:
