Applications for the 2025 Cyclehoop Education Fund are now open!

Last year, we launched the Cyclehoop Education Fund – a new initiative created to provide schools with secure cycle parking and boost active travel amongst students and staff.

After the spectacular reception to our inaugural year, we’re thrilled to announce that entry for our 2025 fund is now open.

The Cyclehoop Education Fund is a grant initiative that gives schools across the United Kingdom the chance to install new cycle parking or upgrade existing facilities. The winning schools receive expert guidance and financial support towards the project. The objective is to make cycling to school more accessible, convenient, and safe for students of all ages and promote the benefits of active travel.

Apply now

  • Timeline: applications are open until November 17th 2025. The winners will be announced in December.
  • Selection: Once all applications are in, a judging panel will review them and pick the winning schools.
  • Assessment: Selected schools will participate in an assessment with our team of experts to determine the best cycle parking solutions for their location.
  • Funding and installation: Our Design and Installation teams will then work with the schools to specify and schedule the installation.

The Cyclehoop Education Fund combines financial support with industry expertise to help schools get the cycle parking they need to promote cycling among their students.

Last year’s winner!

Last year, Hebden Royd Church of England Primary School were the first ever winners of the Cyclehoop Education Fund. Their fantastic application spoke about their ongoing sustainability initiatives including statistics about existing active travel amongst students, highlighting that a quarter of their students live within 1 mile of the school but still drive. Hebden Royd’s clear mission to convert this group as well as encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce traffic congestion for the wider community secured them the Cyclehoop Education Fund grant.

As recipients of the grant, we gave them expert advice on the best solutions for the situation, conducted a workshop with the students, and supplied an open-fronted shelter, junior cycle racks, and scooter racks which greatly upgraded the size and security of their existing storage facilities.

What is active travel?

Active travel refers to travels made by walking, wheeling, or cycling that are powered in-part or completely by people.

Sustainability and eco-consciousness are becoming increasingly important in personal and business practices. Active travel helps to reduce emissions and facilitate exercise. Students who cycle to school arrive at school feeling energised and focused for the day ahead.

Why is cycling and active travel important in schools?

Climate change concerns are rising. Providing sustainable transport options for students is a crucial step forward in minimising our carbon footprint. Promoting cycling as a mode of transport  encourages cleaner air, reduced traffic, and healthier lifestyles whilst also teaching students independence.

The Education Fund aims to address a challenge faced by schools nationwide – limited budgets for active travel initiatives. By providing financial assistance and expert advice, we aim to alleviate the financial burden and help schools build or improve their cycle parking facilities.

Benefits for schools

The Cyclehoop Education Fund aims to provide far reaching benefits to students, schools, and communities. These includes improved health and wellbeing as a result of regular exercise and reduced environmental impact by cutting emissions caused by the school run.

The Education Fund prioritises schools with a clear need for improved facilities, ensuring that help goes to where it is needed most.

Join the active travel movement

The Cyclehoop Education Fund aims to drive a shift towards a more sustainable future through active travel, considered transport, and healthier lifestyles. The benefits of cycle travel extend beyond individuals, going deep into communities by creating cleaner air and less congested environments for all.
