The residents of Southwark are edging towards creating a cleaner, greener borough with the help of a successful bid for the cleaner greener safer fund.
As part of this successful bid, Southwark Cyclists have decided to install our bike lockers and on street ‘Lambeth Bikehangars’ around the borough, helping to reduce the inaccessibility issues of cycling faced by people living in flats or communal settings.
Southwark Cyclists say “A lack of parking fundamentally prevents Southwark residents from travelling by bicycle, thus clearly and directly preventing the growth of cycling in the borough and reducing the cost effectiveness of other cycling investments. Furthermore, as the installation of parking will increase the numbers of cyclists without removing space from the road it is a policy able to encourage cycling with minimal reasons for opposition from local residents.”
The rental service is fully managed by Cyclehoop on behalf of Southwark Council. We estimate that around 30 Lambeth Bikehangars are to be installed in the borough over the next 12 months.
For a small annual membership fee users receive a key to gain access to a cycle parking space. Cyclehoop will manage the scheme and maintain the bike lockers for the duration of the contract.
