Free cycle parking in Glasgow to celebrate UCI World Championships anniversary

In partnership with Glasgow City Council, we are excited to announce two weeks of free access to the city’s secure, short-term cycle parking service, Trips.

From 21st September to 5th October, residents and visitors can enjoy complimentary bike parking across 20 locations in the city centre, marking the one-year anniversary of the service’s launch and celebrating the success of the 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships, which Glasgow proudly hosted last year.

A convenient and secure parking option

Trips, accessible via the Cyclehoop smartphone app, offers short-term, secure cycle parking, making it easier than ever to park your bike while navigating the city. With 20 Bikehangars available, including one specifically designed for cargo bikes and adapted cycles, cyclists have access to safe parking solutions across key locations in Glasgow’s city centre.

12 of the Bikehangars are already decorated with the iconic UCI rainbow stripes, a reminder of Glasgow’s role as host of the 2023 UCI World Championships. By the end of the free access, all 20 will be adorned with the rainbow stripes, making them easy to spot.

How to access free cycle parking

  1. Download the Cyclehoop App: The app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
  2. Set up your account: Register and add a bank card to your profile (needed to terminate a booking).
  3. Find your nearest location: Use the app to locate a Trips Bikehangar near you.
  4. Park for free: Enjoy secure, cost-free cycle parking for the duration of the two-week celebration.

“We’re thrilled to offer free cycle parking to the people of Glasgow while celebrating the UCI World Championships,”

said Anthony Lau, Founder and Design Director at Cyclehoop.

“Trips has been an affordable and sustainable transportation option for many, and we hope this initiative will encourage even more people to experience the ease and benefits of secure cycle parking in the city.”

Councillor Angus Millar, Convener for Climate, Transport and City Centre Recovery, expressed his excitement about the impact of the service over the past year:

“The cycle parking units in the city centre have been a great success, providing safe and secure storage for those cycling into the area to work, study, or visit. This opportunity to use the units for free during the current UCI World Cycling Championships – a year after Glasgow hosted the event – will encourage even more people to use the scheme.”
